Mission
The mission of the Multicultural Center of Central Minnesota is to increase cultural awareness, undserstanding and appreciation; create and nurture relationships among all ages and cultural groups; and connect individuals, families and organizations with community between resources. It is a convener that seeks to build bridges between citizens of Central Minnesota- newcomers as well as long time residents.
History
The concept of a multicultural center for Central Minnesota evolved from the discussions of the Moving Forward on Diversity Task Force, an initiative of the United Way of Central Minnesota.The task force was charged with helping create a more welcoming community through initiatives that increased cultural awareness and addressed identified barriers. It conducted a thorough study to evaluate the need for a multicultural center, including demographic analysis, community roundtable discussions, an examination of successful multicultural centers elsewhere, a community assessment and a review of potential funding sources.
